After watching The American Baking Competition on CBS (here) I realized even being an avid baker, I know very little about Macarons. I actually thought they were called Macaroons. Silly me. I was so wrong. So here's the four one one on the macaron with one 'o'.
Both recipes are gluten-free, they're completely different. The French macaron is a meringue, sandwich-type cookie with a light, airy texture made from egg whites. The macaroon is a Southern cookie with made with coconut and condensed milk. Coconut macaroons are fairly easy to make while French macaroons are well.....I dare not tackle them! We purchased ours (see top photo) and I'm certain they look much better than if we'd try to make them.
They're both delish! Which do you prefer?
