Glam Holiday Breakfast: Glitter Guide Feature

It was such an honor to be included with such talented gals. Monika Hibbs from The Doctor's Closet and Stephanie Jean of Lulu & Drew put together and amazing shoot for The Glitter Guide here. This flocked tree sets the tone for such a glam holiday breakfast. I think the kids will appreciate the details almost as much as moms!

Here's a peek at a few of my favorite photos. Be sure to check the links above for more!

I'll be back tomorrow to share another fun shoot with you all!

Cheery Wedding Essentials from BRIDES Magazine

I realize this might assault your senses being the orange we're seeing right now is in the form of fall leaves, BUT I found this in searching for an Aedriel Originals' design and had to share. Yes, I use google images to search for my own's easier than searching through thousands of photos on our computer because I can never remember what I name anything. I'm a photo hoarder. I suppose brides are planning spring weddings right now so that's how I'm justifying sharing this crazy pop of color during a season of orange and brown.

I'm going to take a short walk down memory lane now. Working with BRIDES magazine for this feature was a fantastic experience. It's always an exciting feeling to flip through a magazine knowing your hard work is sandwiched in there somewhere.

Here's my girl enjoying the excitement with me!

Bright and cheery with punchy stripes perfect for spring weddings.

Thanks for reading this 'remember when' post!

Behind the Scenes at Aedriel Originals

How about a little behind the scenes detail showing how one of our designs comes to fruition. Like that word? Ha!

(Here's the hubby hard at work creating our workspace for the porcelain)
(Phase two)

Phase three is letting them dry...I mean REALLY dry before they are high fired. We learned the hard way that clay has to be completely dry before going in the kiln. The clay literally explodes in the kiln if there is any moisture at all remaining. It's a total mess and all the hard work is well....86'd. High fire is about 2,200 degrees plus or minus a few. Ouch!
There's a handful of other tidbits we learned but I can't give all my secrets away! Just know that these are made with lots of love and attention to detail.
What can  Aedriel's Little Porcelain Tags be used for, you ask?
They're perfect for adding a little chic element to your organizing efforts by using them to label baskets. The rustic element of the included twine is a fab contrast to the daintiness of the porcelain.

They're also sweet as gift tags or as place markers at a wedding for dinner. Tie them onto the napkin (as shown in the magazine feature above) or hang them from a vase.

We also use them to label decanters on our bar cart/buffet table. Super easy and everyone always comments on how fun it looks!
So the possibilities are endless for these little babies.

Southern Weddings Charm!

Southern charm and grace oozes from every page of Southern Weddings magazine. I've never come across such an exquisite magazine chalk full of meticulously planned 'chapters' (seriously, this baby is like a book!) yet has the charm of real life, making this a resource for real people planning real events. What an honor for Aedriel Originals to be featured in the pages of such loveliness.

Now it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite 'chapter' but the Blue Ribbon Bounty pages are right up there. There's nothing quite a like a pie to bring about feelings of tradition and warmth.

Lovely dipped cake server set that reads
“Your love is sweet as a peach” from Jagged Edge Designs
Sweet little cupcake pedestals from Aedriel Originals
are perfect for mini pies, don't you think?

Mismatched china and bountiful pies mixed with adorable little mini pies makes me want to pull up a chair and dig in.

Sweet Potato of many pies featured
but this literally makes my mouth water.

Hurry up and go to and enter to win one of these lovelies just in time for the holidays!

Vanilla, Pear, and Vodka Cocktail

  • 12 oz (1.5 cups) pear juice
  • 6 oz vodka
  • 1/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
  • vanilla sugar, for rim
  • 1 cup ice, plus more to serve over
Mix pear juice and vodka in a pitcher or shaker. Split open the vanilla bean, and scrape the seeds into the juice and vodka. Add 1 cup ice, then give it a good shake. Pour into cocktail glasses over more ice and serve with sugared rim. Makes 4 drinks.

{Impressive, yet easy peasy!}

Honeyed Fig Crostatas

  1. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  3. Kosher salt
  4. 1 1/2 sticks cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  5. 1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons ice water
  6. 1 1/2 pounds fresh green and purple figs, each cut into 6 wedges
  7. 5 teaspoons honey
  8. 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  9. 1/4 teaspoon thyme leaves, plus small sprigs for garnish
  10. 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water

  1. In a food processor, pulse the flour with the sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Add the butter and pulse until it is the size of peas. Add the water; pulse until the dough comes together. Pat the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut out eight 5-inch rounds, rerolling the scraps if necessary; transfer to a parchment paper–lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°. In a bowl, toss two-thirds of the figs with 3 teaspoons of the honey, the lemon juice, thyme leaves and a pinch of salt. Arrange the figs on the dough rounds, leaving a 1/2-inch border all around. Fold the edges over the figs and brush the dough with the egg wash. Chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Bake the crostatas for 35 minutes, rotating halfway through baking, until the crusts are golden. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  5. Gently toss the remaining figs with the remaining 2 teaspoons of honey. Transfer the crostatas to plates, top with the figs and thyme sprigs and serve. SOURCE

Chic, Ruffled Burlap Table Runners

This tutorial is based on an 8ft x 3ft table.

10 oz. Burlap
Sewing Machine
Iron (To iron hems for easier sewing.)

**I don't know specific "skill ratings" but I have novice sewing skills (I can barely sew a straight line) and after getting through the first one, the rest were easy.**

*Cut material to measure 20in x 10ft2in.

*Hem each long side in 1in, so width now equals 18in.

*Fold over ends 1in, pin, but do not sew yet.

*Cut 2 pieces for ruffle 6in x 40in each.

*Sew 1in hems on both short ends and one long end of ruffle pieces.

*Pin several pleats along unhemmed edge of ruffle pieces, until piece is 17in wide.

*Sew along pinned edge.

*Remove pins. Pleats will "let out" a bit and the pleated piece will then be about 18in long.

*Pin ruffle with 1in overlap onto end of runner pieces that were previously pinned.

*Sew ruffle to end of runner - one on each end.

The material was purchased online through Northwest Upholstery for $1.20/yd for 30 yards. Total cost for one runner is under $4. (Note also, that the fabric is 40in wide, so two runners can be made from one width.)

BRIDES Magazine Feature! Say What??

I have sent products to BRIDES magazine three times! The first two times the layout changed at the last minute (ah! the magazine world!) and I was disappointed to learn each time that it was a no-go. So I was hesitant a few months back when I received a request for the Sophia Collection Cake Stand. They needed it in two days so it was a mad dash to UPS to get  it to New York ASAP.  Now I've had some VERY generous press over the years but somehow BRIDES became my goal. When the tear sheet arrived in the mail a week ago (I had no idea!) and my husband said "look! Brides sent you something." I squealed, literally,  and did the happy dance (it's not pretty but it feels good!).

Right there, see it?! Find her shine on page 146. That cake looks divine from the renowned Momofuku Milk Bar in Brooklyn.  The Sophia Collection has an understated elegance that really gives your cake an opportunity to shine. It can accommodate multiple layers (she's got the beauty and the brawn) and will add a beautiful keepsake to your home after the big day.

what's your story? part one.

I feature fluff.

Pretty dresses, organized living eye candy,
entertaining ideas,
handmade artistry...yadda yadda.
Featuring fluff is fun but there's so much more to life than that.
There are moments, like today, where I can't bring myself to post a pretty picture and say pretty things.

I have a story and I know you do too. Our story makes us who we are. Our story encompasses our weaknesses, our strengths, our attitudes and our choices. Posting pretty pictures deflects my story. What do you do to deflect your story?

Think about choices you make and things that you do only to offer glimpses, tiny cracks with light shining through, of a different place. A place where everything is as it should be. We strive for that place. We dream about that place. We buy things hoping it will bring us a little closer to that place. That place will never happen. It's not supposed to. Besides, if we had everything the way we think we want it.....we'd probably only want it different.

Embrace your story and show compassion because of it.
Be at peace with your story.
You are creating your own legacy.....
your own story.
